Frequently asked questions
About RSS readers in general, and about Tusolite: a free RSS reader with no ads and no algorithm, that keeps your highlights.
RSS readers
What is an RSS reader?
An RSS reader collects the newest posts from the websites you choose and shows them in one place. Most blogs, news sites, newsletters, podcasts and YouTube channels publish a feed (RSS or Atom) that a reader checks for you, so you don't have to visit each site to see what's new.
Is RSS dead? Do people still use RSS in 2026?
No. Blogs, news sites, Substack newsletters, podcasts, YouTube channels and Reddit all still publish feeds, and podcast apps run on them. Many people are coming back to RSS to follow the sites they trust without an algorithm deciding what they see.
How do I follow blogs without social media?
Use an RSS reader. Add the blogs you like once, and their new posts arrive in your reading list in the order they were published, with no feed algorithm, ads or notifications in between.
How do I find a website's RSS feed?
With Tusolite you don't have to. Type the site's address, such as example.com, and Tusolite finds the feed the site advertises, or checks the usual feed addresses if it doesn't advertise one. You can also paste a feed address directly.
Tusolite
Is Tusolite free?
Yes. Tusolite is free to use, with no ads and no paid tier you need to unlock the reader. Each account can follow up to 200 feeds.
Is there a free RSS reader without ads?
Yes, Tusolite is one. It is free, shows no advertising, and does not sell or share your information.
Can I highlight and save quotes from articles?
Yes. Select any passage while you read and save it with one click. Saved quotes stay highlighted in the post, and you can group them into collections and add your own notes.
Can I export my highlights to Markdown, Obsidian or an AI assistant?
Yes. Export one collection or all of your saved quotes as a plain Markdown file, with each quote's note and a link back to the post. It pastes straight into Obsidian, a notebook or whichever AI assistant you use.
Does Tusolite use an algorithm to rank my feed?
No. Your reading list is simply the newest posts from the sites you follow, in the order they were published. Nothing is ranked, boosted or hidden.
Does Tusolite send notifications?
No. There are no push notifications, badges or unread counts. The only emails are for your account: confirming your address, resetting a password, and telling you when your email or password changes.
Can I follow YouTube channels, podcasts and newsletters?
Yes, anything that publishes a feed, including most YouTube channels, podcasts and Substack newsletters. Videos and podcast episodes appear in your list and open at the source; Tusolite never plays anything at you.
Can I import my feeds from another RSS reader or my bookmarks?
Yes. On the Feeds page, paste an OPML export from another reader, a browser bookmarks export, or one address per line. Tusolite finds each site's feed and follows it, up to 30 sites per import.
How often are feeds checked for new posts?
Every 30 minutes for sites that post often, and less often for quiet ones. The refresh button checks your sites straight away.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Tusolite runs in the browser you already use, on desktop and mobile: Firefox, Brave, Chrome, DuckDuckGo and others. Browser extensions are planned.
Privacy and your account
Does Tusolite track what I read?
No. There is no record of which posts you open or how long you read. Tusolite's server fetches your feeds, so the sites you follow don't see you reading them; only images inside a post load from the publisher when you open it.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, from the Account page, at any time. Your account, the sites you follow and your saved quotes are deleted immediately. Backup copies are gone within 7 days.
Who makes Tusolite?
Tusolite is built and run by Clinton Skakun. He started it in 2021 when he couldn't find anything simple or free to read his blogs.
